Colombia Govt to Present Tax Bill in Coming Days: Avila

Colombia’s government will submit to congress a tax bill to finance part of the 2026 spending in the coming days, Finance Minister German Avila told lawmakers in the presentation of the budget proposal.

  • Tax bill will include increases in the value-added tax on some goods and services that are consumed mostly by high earners
    • Government will not propose taxes on the family shopping basket
  • The government will seek higher levies on alcohol, cigarettes, ultra-processed foods and carbon emissions
