The Colorado Department of Revenue (DOR) June 24 issued a general information letter regarding the taxability of certain beverages and insulin. The letter states that non-alcoholic beer, kombucha, bottled coffee with sweetener, and insulin not dispensed by a practitioner are generally subject to sales and use tax. However, insulin dispensed under the direction of a practitioner, which may include a prescription, may qualify for a tax exemption if the seller can provide sufficient documentation to verify the exemption.
