GOP, DC Clash Over Vote to Nullify Tax Law
Congressional Republicans’ bid to repeal the Washington, DC, tax law decoupling it from federal law is clashing with local officials who say the Senate missed a key deadline to act.
The Senate on Thursday voted to send to President Donald Trump a measure to throw out a DC law decoupling city residents’ tax obligations from last year’s mega tax cuts law.
In theory, the federal legislation forces the city to conform its tax code with over a dozen provisions of Republicans’ tax-and-spending law.
