Cuellar Wins Key Vote to Return as Homeland Spending Panel Lead

A House Democrat surmounted a critical hurdle in his bid to return to a key position overseeing funding for the Department of Homeland Security shortly after securing President Donald Trump’s pardon.

Democrats on the House Appropriations Committee voted Thursday to re-install Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) as ranking member of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, Cuellar spokesman Matt Landini said.

Cuellar’s promotion still needs to be approved by the rest of the House Democratic caucus before he can take over the job from Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-Ill.).
