Democratic tax writers in the House unveiled legislation Thursday addressing inflation that consumers and families are facing, previewing what the powerful House Ways and Means Committee would prioritize if Republicans lose their narrow majority in November.

The bill offered by Ways and Means Subcommittee on Tax Policy ranking member Mike Thompson (D-Calif.) is unlikely to become law as written while Republicans control the legislative process in Washington, though some of the discrete proposals have GOP backing and could factor into a bipartisan tax package next year.
