Democrats Signal Tax Bill Support Amid ‘Imperfect’ Child Credit

Several House Ways and Means Committee Democrats signaled their reluctant support for the bipartisan tax package Friday, calling the bill imperfect but still helpful for its child tax credit expansion.

Democrats failed to attach an amendment further expanding the credit during a Ways and Means markup of the $78 billion tax bill proposed by Chair Jason Smith (R-Mo.) and Senate Finance Chair Ron Wyden (D-Ore.). Still, several Democratic members of the committee said they would support the legislation, praising the benefits it would bring to low-income families.
