Digital Taxes ‘Deeply Discriminatory,’ Treasury Nominee Says

President Donald Trump’s nominee for a top Treasury Department post told senators that France’s digital services tax is “deeply discriminatory against U.S. companies.”

Countries such as France and the U.K. have introduced taxes on large internet companies that some U.S. lawmakers think may unfairly target companies like Alphabet Inc.'s Google and Facebook Inc.

“The advent of these unilateral digital services taxes in countries like France is deeply troubling to us,” Treasury General Counsel Brent McIntosh, Trump’s nominee to be the department’s undersecretary for International Affairs, said at a July 24 Senate Finance Committee hearing.
