Direct File Opponents Keep Lobbying

Republicans seem likely to kill the IRS’ free Direct File program, and moved toward that in their July tax law, but lobbying by opponents of the agency-run tax filing tool nonetheless kept up in the most recent quarter.

Tax prep companies like Intuit and H&R Block spent millions so far this year lobbying lawmakers, according to disclosures due this week. Backers of Direct File also cited the program in lobbying filings, but spent far less.
