Disaster-Related Tax Extensions Bill Approved by Congress

Congress cleared legislation Thursday giving taxpayers impacted by natural disasters or terrorism extra time to claim tax credits and refunds when their filing deadlines are extended, sending the bill to President Donald Trump’s desk before the next filing season begins.

The Senate unanimously passed Rep. Greg Murphy’s (R-N.C.) H.R. 1491 without a roll call vote along with other uncontroversial bills as the chamber prepares to close its doors for the year.
