The promoters of a Georgia land conservation scheme involving more than $2 billion in inflated tax deductions were sued by the Department of Justice Tax Division.

The defendants allegedly organized, promoted, and sold ownership interests in at least 96 conservation easement syndicates, according to a Dec. 19 statement announcing the complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.
