The National Association of Enrolled Agents questioned the IRS on how it plans to use funds from the proposed increase in fees for enrolled agents, in a public hearing Wednesday.
An enrolled agent is a tax professional who has received authorization from the federal government to represent taxpayers before the IRS.
REG-114209-21, published in March, proposes the IRS increase enrolled agent fees to $140 from $67 to cover direct and indirect costs to administer the enrollment and renewal program. This is a 467% increase from 2019, when the user fee was $30.
