Epic Games Paid 3.5b Yen in Back Taxes in Japan, Nikkei Says

Epic Games paid ~3.5b yen in back taxes in Japan after authorities found the Fortnite developer failed to properly declare its tax obligations, Nikkei reports, citing an unidentified person.

  • Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau found the company hadn’t paid enough consumption tax on in-game purchases
  • Epic tells Nikkei it inadvertently failed to pay taxes on Fortnite revenue in 2018-2020
