Estonia Urges EU to Repeal or Halt Global Minimum Tax Law

Estonia’s finance minister asked the European Commission on Wednesday to repeal or suspend the EU’s minimum tax law, arguing it would hurt its businesses and not bring enough revenue to justify implementation costs.

Finance Minister Jurgen Ligi argued in an open letter to commission President Ursula von der Leyen and its tax chief Wopke Hoekstra that Estonia “did not expect to carve out big economies from the minimum tax system” when it agreed to the law in 2021.
