EU Lawmakers Retreat From Minimum Tax Changes Request

The European Parliament won’t call for substantial changes to the European Union’s implementation of the global minimum tax after all, the lead lawmaker on the issue said Wednesday.

Members of European Parliament had earlier suggested changes like a 21% minimum in the EU—rather than the 15% globally agreed rate—and deletion of an exemption for global shipping. But they won’t include such requests in a draft European Parliament opinion on the minimum tax, center-left lawmaker Aurore Lalucq said during a meeting of the parliament’s economic and monetary affairs (ECON) committee.
