EU Should Move Toward Single Value-Added Tax Rate, Group Says

The EU should gradually reduce the number of value-added tax rates within the bloc, potentially converging toward a single rate in each country, a group consisting of trade associations, companies and academics said in a report.

The EU VAT Expert Group argued in a report dated Dec. 2 but published Monday that a single rate would “reduce administrative complexity and align with the EU’s goal of creating a single VAT area.”
