The European Commission cautioned a number of member states concerning tax measures that don’t comply with European Union law.
The commission announced new infringement proceedings Thursday against a number of members, as well as next steps in several existing proceedings.
The commission starts infringement actions when it views members as failing to comply with their obligations under EU law. The proceedings begin with a formal letter of notice. If countries don’t respond satisfactorily, the commission moves on to a reasoned opinion, and eventually may refer a case to the European Court of Justice.
