Ex-IRS Watchdog Raises Taxpayer Privacy Concerns

Former National Taxpayer Advocate Nina Olson is warning of taxpayer data privacy violations amid Elon Musk’s Treasury Department team gaining access to the department payment systems.

Basic information like a taxpayer’s name, Social Security number, refund amounts, and total debts can be viewed in this system, Olson said at a House Ways and Means oversight subcommittee hearing Tuesday. She currently is director of the Center for Taxpayer Rights.

“This is very personal information and can be very damaging to taxpayers,” she said.
