French Wealth Tax Vote Is Delayed as Government Teeters

Frenchlawmakers didn’t vote on a Socialist proposal for a wealth tax Saturday, delaying a possible compromise in a budget debate that risks toppling the fragile minority government of Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu.

The center-left party had added an amendment to the 2026 budget bill for a narrower version of a broad-based levy they have long advocated, named after the economist Gabriel Zucman.
