Goldman’s Currie Says World Needs a Global Carbon Tax

The world needs a global tax on carbon to reduce emissions, as ESG measures are a “blunt tool” that push up fuel prices too quickly, Jeffrey Currie, head of commodities research at Goldman Sachs, says in Bloomberg TV interview.

  • For climate change, “local solutions don’t solve the global problem. We need a global carbon tax,” Currie says
    • Everyone would face a similar cost for emissions
  • ESG is a “blunt tool” for reducing pollution as it cuts overall supply of coal, gas and oil too quickly, pushing up prices much higher than a global tax would
