GOP House Tax-Writing Chair Sees Path for Bipartisan Tax Pact

The chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee expressed optimism for an end-of-year tax package even as the GOP also moves forward with the impeachment inquiry of President Joe Biden.

Ways and Means Chair Jason Smith (R-Mo.) sees a “good opportunity” for House Republicans and Senate Democrats to agree on a bipartisan tax package, including a compromise on the child tax credit, he said at a Punchbowl News event Wednesday. The committee will also take more steps to release confidential tax-related documents related to the impeachment inquiry by the end of the month.
