GOP Lawmakers Slam Employee Retention Credit Processing Halt

Ways and Means Committee Chair Jason Smith and Subcommittee on Oversight Chair David Schweikert in a Tuesday letter blasted the recent IRS decision to halt new employee retention credit claims processing, saying the stoppage will exacerbate existing backlogs and prevent eligible businesses from making use of benefits for which they qualify.

Smith (R-Mo.) and Schweikert (R-Ariz.) also asked what the IRS is doing to address issues around fraud.
