Republicans plan to interrogate a top Treasury official about the global tax deal Wednesday at a Ways and Means Tax subcommittee hearing, seeing it as a chance to reassert their oversight role and further influence the process.
GOP lawmakers will question Treasury’s Michael Plowgian, a deputy assistant secretary for international tax, on whether the deal could still be modified, how it impacts US sovereignty and how much the US could lose in revenue. Democrats, though, called the Republicans’ strategy a mistake, and said the rest of the world is ready to move forward.
