New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D) signed off on two bills to cut taxes for Atlantic City’s casinos by millions of dollars a year and to offer credits for rehiring workers, as part of a package of bills he greenlighted before the Christmas holiday.
The governor approved S4007 on Tuesday, making various changes to the program established in 2016 for payments in lieu of property taxes. One of the most significant changes would exempt sports betting and internet gaming—two of the industry’s fastest-growing revenue streams—from the calculation of casino payments under the program.
