Greece Announces More Economic Support Measures Worth EU3.5b

Greece is extending existing, and introducing new, economic support measures worth a total of around EU3.5b, PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis tells lawmakers in Athens.

  • State will extend payment of social security contribution for employees in furlough to end-Oct from end-July
  • Businesses that have recorded a fall in their turnover of more than 35% in 1H 2020 compared with the same period last year won’t have to pre-pay taxes for 2021
  • Extend social security payments by state for employees in furlough to end-Oct. from end-July, worth EU600m
  • Seasonal businesses won’t pay social security contributions for employees in July, Aug. and Sept., worth EU600m
  • Freelancers who aren’t subject to paying sales tax will only have to pay half of advanced tax payment for 2021
  • Seasonal businesses who in 3Q have a fall in turnover of 50% and above won’t have to pre-pay 2021 taxes
  • Govt. will proceed with 3rd round of returning to cos taxes that have already been pre-paid for 2021
