Green Groups Oppose Forest Biomass Energy Tax Credit Eligibility

Three environmental groups are urging Treasury and IRS to exclude forest-derived biomass electricity from eligibility for coming tech neutral green energy credits slated to go into effect next year.

In a comment letter, the groups argue that forest-derived biomass electricity has higher-than-zero greenhouse gas emissions and therefore should not be considered eligible for the Section 45Y tax credit as Treasury and IRS write guidance for the credits.

The letter is signed by National Wildlife Federation, Natural Resources Defense Council, and Southern Environmental Law Center.
