The fate of the bipartisan tax package rests with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), who has to decide how to proceed on a measure that has the support of the business community but has drawn criticism from some members of his caucus.

The $78 billion legislation, which would renew several business tax breaks and expand the child tax credit, has been criticized by conservatives who don’t want to give President Joe Biden a legislative win in an election year and by Republicans opposing elements of the child credit expansion.
