Three House Democrats on the Oversight and Ways and Means committees Thursday called on the IRS to look into the data-sharing practices of tax preparation companies H&R Block, TaxAct, and TaxSlayer, citing a report that they shared personal tax information with Facebook.
In a letter to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) called for an investigation and asked the IRS to disclose how many people might have been impacted and whether the data could have been shared from people who used Free File versions of the tax prep sites.
