HILL TAX BRIEFING: IRS Preps for $80 Billion, Werfel Awaits Hearing

As the start of tax filing season approaches on Monday, the IRS remains without a permanent commissioner or even a confirmation hearing date from the Senate Finance Committee. The Senate returns Monday after a three-week break and will first start finalizing its committee and subcommittee assignments.

The Biden administration originally nominated Danny Werfel in November. He worked for many years at the Office of Management and Budget and served a shorter stint at the IRS in 2013. The White House renominated him this month at the start of the new Congress.
