HILL TAX BRIEFING: What to Know About the Speaker Race and Taxes

It remains to be seen who the next House speaker will be, but the candidates in the race so far are no strangers to the tax world.

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) is the current House majority leader and was also a member of GOP leadership in the chamber when Republicans passed their 2017 tax-cut law.

Scalise is endorsed by Americans for Tax Reform, the anti-tax group led by Grover Norquist, which praised him for his work on the 2017 law and his opposition to a carbon tax.
