HILL TAX BRIEFING: Worries Surround U.S.-France Digital Tax Talks

There’s not much optimism among congressional and private sector staff briefed on the status of negotiations over France’s digital tax.

The tax is one of several from European countries that U.S. officials say unfairly target the revenue of companies like Facebook Inc. The U.S. could still decide to double U.S. taxes on French taxpayers and companies if negotiations fall apart.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin previously said the administration would consider all its available options if it doesn’t reach agreement with French officials within a 90-day period, ending roughly in mid-December.
