House GOP Pitches $1.1 Billion IRS Cut, Ban on Free Filing Tool

House Republicans are proposing to cut the IRS’s annual appropriations by more than $1 billion for fiscal 2024, while also rescinding some of the multiyear funds the agency received in the Inflation Reduction Act.

Under the fiscal 2024 financial services and general government spending bill released by the House Appropriations Committee, the IRS would receive $11.2 billion, a decrease of about $1.1 billion compared to the enacted level for this year and $2.9 billion less than President Joe Biden called for in his budget request.
