House Republicans Demand Investigation of IRS Refund Check Theft

A Treasury watchdog should launch an investigation into the alleged theft of millions of dollars in IRS refunds, House Ways and Means Committee Chair Jason Smith (R-Mo.) said in a letter.

Smith and Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-N.Y.), also a member of the tax panel, wrote to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration and the US Postal Service Office of Inspector General asking for a joint review of the theft of paper checks issued by the US government.
