House Republicans Urge Germany to Repeal ‘Discriminatory’ IP Tax

Nine House Republicans pressed the German Minister of Finance to repeal Germany’s century old tax on intellectual property income that’s recently troubled US companies.

Germany in 2020 said it would start applying a 1925 law that levies a withholding tax on nonresident companies on income from German-registered IP. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Iowa) led eight other Ways and Means Republicans in an Aug. 29 letter to German Minister of Finance Christian Lindner, publicly released Friday, to repeal the provision except as it relates to transactions with certain tax-havens.
