Housing Advocates Look to Build on Tax Code Successes in 2025

Affordable housing backers, developers, and their allies in Congress are setting the stage for a more expansive look at housing tax policy in 2025, on the heels of a boost to the low-income housing tax credit inching its way closer to passage this year.

The $78 billion bipartisan tax package that passed the House on Jan. 31 includes a 12.5% increase in the amount of low-income housing tax credits states can allocate. The measure would help states fund more affordable developments, and has been a top priority for the housing industry since the lift expired in 2021.
