A former FBI informant who has pleaded guilty to providing false information about then-Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden asked for a light sentence for his tax evasion.

Alexander Smirnov asked the judge for the minimum sentence—48 months, according to a sentencing memorandum filed Dec. 24 in the US District Court for the Central District of California. Smirnov pleaded guilty this month to creating a false and fictitious record in a federal investigation and to three counts of tax evasion after he admitted to having $2.1 million in unreported income from 2020 to 2022.
