The Illinois Department of Revenue (DOR) issued an informational bulletin announcing changes to local sales tax rates for numerous taxing jurisdictions throughout the state, effective Jan. 1, 2026. The bulletin details that certain jurisdictions have imposed new local sales taxes or changed existing rates on general merchandise sales, affecting business district sales tax, home rule municipal sales tax, Metro-East Mass Transit District (MED) sales tax, and non-home rule municipal sales tax in over 80 municipalities and districts, with rate increases ranging from 0.25 percent to 1 percent.
