India Reviews Plans for GST Relief Package for Four Sectors: ET

India is reviewing a plan for goods and services tax relief for hospitality, restaurants, aviation and real estate sectors to help the industries to reduce impact of coronavirus pandemic, Economic Times reports, citing unidentified people with knowledge of the matter.

  • A switch to a cash-based principle of levying tax from the current invoice-based mechanism is also being examined
  • Another proposal is withholding goods and services taxation on sales for which payment is not received due to the lockdown
  • GST Council will still have to make the final decision
