TurboTax-maker Intuit Inc. faces another California lawsuit for alleged deceptive practices that made taxpayers pay for its tax-filing software when they could have filed for free.

Santa Clara County’s counsel filed suit on Sept. 6, saying the software creator intentionally steered people away from free alternatives.

Under the IRS’s Free File program, Intuit and others agreed to provide free versions of their software to the lowest-earning 70% of taxpayers.
