The Irish government proposed raising the tax on petrol and diesel emissions to €63.50, while lowering the vehicle registration tax rate to 8% for low-emission vehicles.
The proposed increase in petrol and diesel emissions would bring in an additional €122 million ($135 million) in the first year, according to a budget proposal published Tuesday.
Other measures include tax benefits for hydrogen and gas-powered commercial vehicles and a lower VAT rate on the supply and installation of heat pumps.
