The most successful whistleblower claims are specific and substantive with supporting documentation, an agency official said.
“Provide everything that you can,” said Lee D. Martin, director of the Whistleblower Office at the Internal Revenue Service.
- “Don’t expect us to go knock on their door and say, ‘Hey are you doing something wrong?’” Martin said June 21 at a tax controversy forum hosted by the New York University School of Professional Studies.
- In fiscal year 2018, the Whistleblower Office made awards exceeding $312 million and collected about $1.4 billion, according to its latest annual report.
