The IRS is being allowed to hire about 10,000 entry-level workers through an expedited process in order to help address its backlog of tax returns, according to the union representing many IRS employees.
National Treasury Employees Union National President Tony Reardon said in a statement Friday his organization “has received notification that the IRS has been granted Direct Hire Authority for roughly 10,000 entry-level positions in submission processing and accounts management, presumably to help address concerns that the agency’s hiring process is difficult and slow.”
