The IRS can enforce summons to obtain phone and personal data from Apple Inc. accounts as part of an international tax investigation, a federal judge said.
Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley on Thursday granted US motions to enforce the summons in two related lawsuits in the US District Court for the Northern District of California. The government says it is obtaining the information at the behest of Swiss authorities who suspect the account holders of tax evasion, and seeks subscriber names and addresses, lengths of service, telephone numbers, IP addresses, and other details.
