IRS CEO’s Appointment Challenged by Senior Senate Democrats

The newly appointed CEO of the IRS lacks the authority or record necessary to lead the beleaguered tax collection agency, key Democratic senators wrote to Trump administration officials on Monday.

At issue is Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s decision as acting IRS commissioner to name Social Security Administration Commissioner Frank Bisignano as the tax agency’s CEO. President Donald Trump has not nominated a new full-time commissioner since Billy Long was ousted shortly after his confirmation.
