Charles Rettig, President Donald Trump’s nominee for IRS commissioner, asked to withdraw from the Michael Jackson estate tax case in the U.S. Tax Court—where Rettig’s Beverly Hills firm represents the estate.
“He’s been gracious enough to accept the nomination,” but if he is confirmed, it could create a conflict of interest as he would be on the opposing side, Matthew F. Kadish, a partner at Kadish, Hinkel & Weibel in Cleveland, told Bloomberg Tax. Rettig made the request in a June 7 motion.
