IRS Hiring Impeded by Communication Issues, Watchdog Says

Delays in the IRS hiring process could cost the agency talent and resources, the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration reportsaid Thursday.

TIGTA gave four recommendations to improve the workload constraints, tech issues, miscommunication, and late security checks that contributed to IRS hiring holdups. The IRS agreed with all recommendations.

The IRS was given authority to speed up its hiring after it got tens of billions in funding from the Democrats’ 2022 tax-and-climate law.
