IRS Issues News Release Announcing Release of 2025 Data Book

The IRS issued a news release announcing publication of its 2025 Data Book detailing agency activities during fiscal year 2025. The Data Book reports that during the 2026 filing season approximately 45 percent of individual returns claimed one or more new tax benefits under the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, with average refunds exceeding $3,200 on those returns as of May 27. The IRS also reported processing 271.4 million federal tax returns and supplemental documents, collecting more than $5.3 trillion in revenue, and continuing digital modernization efforts, including expanded online tools and a “zero paper” initiative.
