A partnership between the IRS and private tax preparation services won’t fully replace the end of the agency’s shuttered Direct File service, a handful of Democrats overseeing the IRS wrote to the agency’s leadership.
“While the Administration has claimed that Direct File was unnecessary due to the availability of Free File, it is clear that Free File is an inadequate substitute for Direct File,” Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) along with seven other key lawmakers wrote in a letter dated Feb. 12.
