The IRS announced its annual Dirty Dozen list of tax scams for 2025, warning taxpayers, businesses, and tax professionals to watch out for common schemes threatening their tax and financial information. The list includes, among others: 1) email phishing scams; 2) bad social media advice; 3) incorrect tax information on social media that can mislead honest taxpayers with bad advice, potentially leading to identity theft and tax problems; and 4) taxpayers who knowingly file fraudulent tax returns that they could potentially face significant civil and criminal penalties.
