IRS News Release: Educator Out-of-Pocket Expense Maximum Deduction Rises to $300 for 2022 (IRC §162)

Teachers and other educators are able to deduct up to $300 of out-of-pocket classroom expenses for 2022 (previously it was $250) when they file their federal income tax return next year, the IRS announced as a reminder ahead of the upcoming school year. This is the first time the annual limit has increased since the deduction was enacted in 2002, and it will rise in $50 increments in future years based on inflation adjustments.
