Aug. 21, 2024, 1:16 PM UTC

Tax professionals are reminded of the “Security Six” protections that are an important starting point to protect their offices, computers and data as well as their clients, the IRS announced. The six important security basics that form a critical defense against identity thieves and hackers include the following: (1) anti-virus software; (2) firewalls; (3) multi-factor authentication; (4) backup software or services; (5) drive encryption; and (6) Virtual Private Network. Tax pros should report security incidents to an IRS Stakeholder Liaison, states and Federal Trade Commission. [IR-2024-218 (Aug. 20, 2024)]
